Parsons Dance Has a Matching Gift Campaign ...This is Our Shot!
A Campaign for the Alexander J. Dube Matching Challenge
This past summer, we received some remarkable news that Parsons Dance has a once in a lifetime opportunity! The life-long dance advocate, and a great friend, Alex Dubé, included Parsons Dance in his will with a substantial challenge: raise $1 million dollars by June 27, 2017, and his estate will give us $500,000. As my late dear collaborator Allen Toussaint sings, “Now is the time!” - We have to meet this challenge.
We need your help to raise the funds - $1 million - in less than a year. This is our shot, and we very much hope that you will join us in building a sustainable foundation to dance on for years to come. The matching challenge is significant but achievable if we all come together to make it happen. Please consider making a donation of any size in light of the great impact you can make this year. Parsons Dance is an iconic modern dance company, internationally renowned for creating & performing contemporary American dance of extraordinary artistry that is enriching to diverse audiences. Founded in 1985 by David Parsons and Tony Award-winning lighting designer Howell Binkley, the company has toured to more than 447 cities, 30 countries and 5 continents, including an annual two-week New York season at The Joyce Theater. New York Magazine has called Mr. Parsons “one of modern dance’s great living dance-makers.”
Parsons Dance prides itself on putting on a truly remarkable show. This season we look forward to a record 95 performances and increasing our outreach and community engagement:
- 45 shows across the US and our home season at the Joyce Theater, and 33 throughout Europe
- 10 student matinees and 5 relaxed performances for audiences on the autism spectrum
- 38 outreach activities on the road including dance workshops for members of the ASD community
- Weekly masterclasses at the 92nd Street Y and an in-school residency at PS75 in NYC
- A full month of summer workshops for pre-professional and professional dancers
What this means for Parsons Dance
When we succeed in this challenge it will mean that we can invest in our artists: our dancers, musicians, composers, collaborators, and lighting and costume designers are the heart and soul of this company. With your contribution we will be able to give them the support and resources that they need. This investment in the future of Parsons Dance will ensure that David's artistic vision will continue to be seen by thousands of audience members around the world.
We are constantly ‘dance pioneering,’ vigorously and strategically building programs and creating new work to convert new dance fans in each community that welcomes us in. Thanks to you, our community, we are able to do great work, and we need your help to ensure the growth of our future programs.
